For some reason I’ve become engaged once again in the social media tools the internet provides. This very post represents the first since early February here at Tarandon.ca.

It’s interesting to try and identify why the internet today seems more apt to meet my needs as a user than it was 5 months ago. Maybe it’s just the summer time, and the renewed energy that comes with warm weather but I think life in general just seems to be going at a better pace than it has in the past.

Whatever the reason, I plan on keeping things moving forward. Just updated the whole backend of this bitch and now I’m ready to take it all on.

Now, off to investigate cheap bicycles in Toronto.

Cheers,

We only have three games left before the end of the term and we have yet to win a game. We played fairly well last night however, and we only lost by eleven points. This was our smallest margin, as well as our highest scoring game. I almost fouled out in the first half and had to play point defense for the rest of the game because we only had six chaps make it out. Furthermore the decision for play next term will need to be made fairly shortly, and I’m on the fence. I would have expected greater progress at this point but our team just can’t seem to pull it together. Many of our players show up sporatically and we never get a chance to practice.

We’ll see how the game goes next week. If we can win a couple of our last games, I might sign up again for next term.

Cheers,

So we got murdered at basketball Thursday night. 46-15 was the final tally. We brought 6 guys to the game, and the other team brought 11. They showed dominance from the start and my legs just weren’t working. By the half we were down 22-5 so the second half was by far the better of the two. We switched to a zone defense to save our energy and just ran like feinds on the other end of the court. We got destroyed on offensive rebounds and just gave up trying so we could focus on defense.

The referee’s started handicapping the game near the end which just lead to really rough play which doesn’t help anyone.

Next week it looks like a couple co-workers might join us, one of which is six foot six so we should fair a bit better. I just hope we can pull up our ranking a bit over the next 10 weeks.

Cheers,

So last night we played some pick up ball at the JCC on the SW corner of Spadina and Bloor. We had a good time and played better I think than we did last Thursday. In the last 5 minutes however, I managed to sprain my thumb. Currently its about six shades of blue circling the base of the thumb. My movement seems to be increasing however, so hopefully I’ll be able to play in tomorrow nights game.

I’m going to research thumb taping tonight in case there’s some tricks I can use to increase the stability of my joint in preparation for the game tomorrow night.

Wish me luck!

We played our first game last Thursday and we were pretty good. We were leading for the first 3/4 but we ended up losing by about 7 points or so. Despite the loss It looks like we did fairly well considering we’d never played together, and the plays we were given failed miserably against their 2-1-2 zone (which they were relentless with). Regardless I had a lot of fun, despite the excruciating leg pain and dehydration, and I’m really looking forward to next Thursday. We’re going to play some pick up ball on Tuesday night just to get some extra conditioning.

Current record for The Chuckers: 0-1-0

Cheers,

I just found out a really fun way to expand your flash vocabulary when coding in ActionScript 3.0. If you feel the need, try deleting some of the folders in the en\configuration\ActionScript 3.0\Classes\fl\ folder. This the situation I encountered on the computer I happened to be using in the computer lab. I realized that the only folders available for import were motion and transitions. This was a very interesting exercise. All the operators I’ve been used to using had been removed and I was limited to a much smaller sandbox. To my surprise I was still able to hack together a functional submission for my first assignment. It didn’t come out anywhere close to what I had originally planned but it worked nonetheless. While this normally would have been extremely frustrating I found the added challenge to be welcomed entertainment considering the subject matter of the lecture included how to distinguish between = and == when making statements. OMFG!!!

If you actually decide to do this; make sure of course to back everything up, you could probably just move the folders up a level and then return them when you’re done playing.

Cheers!

Ready for the Long Weekend? I sure am. Work will be done for me in 20 minutes, and then I’m off to the Muskokas for some fun in the sun. We’ll be coming back into town on Sunday afternoon to avoid the Monday rush. I managed to weasel two extra days vacation on the end of the long weekend so I’m really excited for my early friday to wrap itself up. I’ve been asked to bring Cranium up to the cottage as we might get some rain, but I’m hoping for better weather. I’ll need to charge my iPod before heading up north, hopefully I’ll have enough time this afternoon to get everything packed and ready to go. Sleeping in a tent in at 12 degrees celsius can be a pain but hopefully we’ll be able to secure the bunkie for the time we’re there.

Any suggestions for what type of Beer I should bring up with me this weekend? I bought a six pack of Niagara Blonde last week and I really enjoyed it, but I don’t think it’s the kind of thing I could drink up at the cottage. I’ve always had a taste for lighter tasting beers. Cool refreshing and not overpowering. Stella Artois, Sleeman Cream Ale, Amsterdam Blonde, etc. I enjoy the occasional Guinness though, so I’m fairly flexible when it comes to taste.

Cheers! and enjoy your long weekend.
